I just got a shiny new Suunto Cobra and I can't find ( in the manual ) ...maybe I missed it....the description of normal status...after clearing...non dive...at home, etc.

I thought I saw it in the shop with a blank screen. This one continuously displays date and time.

I'd appreciate a little help from any of you Cobra users. Thanks!

tq

Normally, the display will blank after a period of time (which I dont remember, i'll check) but if it stays on, there might be some moisture on the contacts but if it's brand new, hum... try cleaning the contacts and wait a while. I'll check in my manual (I've got the Vyper but it's the same on most aspects)

ok, got it

text will stay on for less than an hour after you get out of the water if I remember but the manual says nothing on it. If it stays on for a couple of hours, there might be something. The reason is probably, according to manual, contamination or invisible marine growththat may create an unwanted electrical current between the contacts. If so, the AC-text remains on display.

try cleaning push buttons and contacts with fresh water. See your manual also, chapter on water contacts, they might have other advices. It is important to rince it well and asap after every dive (like every other gear in fact)

good luck and tell us if it worked.

I have Vyper, non integrated version.

the buttons are not the water contact, under side you will see two contacts (I believe these also serve for down load connection). I wipe these off w/ Q tip dipped in white vinegar.

exactly Deeplou,
but look in your manual at 2.3 "Water contacts". They say that underwater, the water contacts are connected to the push buttons by water conductivity and that it is important that both water contacts and push buttons are kept clean. Although I would have also tought that only the water contacts meant something.

This is also important when you transfer the data on your pc because you connect the cable to the water contacts

You are rigth my friend, all you need to do is let it dry and in about an hour after it will turn off, i have a Sunnto Cobra and some times it takes a while to dry, more at this time of the year when we are at 40's so the summer heat is not helping, so what i do after i rinse it i hang my reg in the shower let it dry over night before i place it in the bag.

I also use an air integrated Cobra and after you rinse it off in fresh water make sure the AC is off. You might have to rinse it several times and shake it out but it will not turn off if there is still water around the contacts. The water contacts by the way are not the same as the PC contacts on the back. The water contacts are inside so you have to run fresh water through the openings in the back of the case.
