Anyone interested in going diving off shore in Delaware on Saturday Nov 12th. I just called the Surface Interval, and with myself and my buddy Chris, they only have a total of 4 booked for that date. They need 12 to move the boat, so we need 8 more divers.

Who wants to go diving? Water temps are high 50's to low 60's at depth.

Post here, or PM me if interested.

Will never use that outfit again...
Not that I will head North to dive til I get a Drysuit, but might I ask why?
I understand that its an opinion, but if other divers have the same it might save me from the same mistake.

OK, so this past weekend they got blown out again. Last chance to dive off the SI is next weekend, and Sunday is a private charter, so Saturday is the last scheduled dive for them.

C'mon guys, lets go diving...

They are famous for going out when it is to rough, getting to the dive site then calling it off and wont refund any money. If the boat goes out, you often end up paying for just a boat ride.

I've seen it where we went out, 3 people decide to give it a try... get in the water for 10 minutes, come up saying it's too bad down there, then everyone on the boat gets charged full fare... never again... can not recommend.

If the boat leaves the dock you're not getting a refund no matter what. Even if you decide not to go out with them... if they go and you were scheduled... no refund.

The diving itself is adequate when the weather is good. The shoals and wrecks are great for spearfishing. Vis can range from 3 feet - 30 feet and seasonal temps vary but the bottom temps at 100 feet don't vary much between 40 - 55 F year round. It is always cold water low vis diving. The typical vis is 10 -15 feet. 30 is rare and 3 is a really bad day...

That is a dissapointing report for one of the few charters in DE.
I don't quite understand your post.
Are you saying they get you to the dive site and then tell you conditions are to bad, no one is diving?

Or are you saying they get you to the site and the divers decide if conditions are to bad to dive in?

If the boat leaves the dock and you make the call not to go why should they give you a refund??? If they give you a refund every other diver has to pay your share to make up the difference.

I have booked 3 times with SI and been blown out each time. I thought they were a little conservitave in calling the conditions. But then I am used to 4-6'

No charter/boat/or capt can predict conditions. They are running a business, It cost them the same amount to get you there in 2-3'rs as it does in 4-5'. They cannot guarantee flat seas.
I have called dives that vis was so bad you couldn't see the wreck at the tie in point. Would I ask for a refund? of course not. The Capt did his job to get me to the dive site and provide surface support. What more do you want?

well, let's hope that we have better luck. Sorry that you had such a bad experience. If there were other options we may look at them, but a monopoly is a monopoly :)

YES... This has happened - NO REFUND

YES... This has also happened - NO REFUNDS

WHY? When a small craft advisory is up and other boats are not going out, why should I have to pay for others to go for a boat ride? These same occurrences are when they get out there, no one dives and everybody gets charged. Every other diver pays for a boat ride.. none of them go diving.

HEY... I've been diving in 6-8 foot seas all over the world... and I've got no problems doing so... but don't get me out there and then decide it's too rough and charge me for a boat ride... that's what they do.

ARE YOU KIDDING? I'm paying to go diving - not for a boat ride. If I want to go for a boat ride I'll take mine out. The Captain should make a call before the boat ever leaves the dock... and if he can't, then he shouldn't be a Captain. I've dove the world over... and I can point to many operations that know whether or not to leave the dock.
