I have made that particular upgrade so that I can use a Fuji Endeavor compact camera inside the housing,.
I load it with a 40 exp. Fuji APX Avantix (check spelling) film and it literally makes it point and shoot. The Endeavor has auto wind on it and the lens is better quality than the disposables.

Sorry to here you are having trouble finding the disposables.... probably a espionage' trick to get people to buy Nikonus etc?
