Super Costly Underwater Breathing Adventure

ROFLMAO!! I just now saw this for the first time. Very good. You should make a t-shirt.

Let's see. Nevermind.

ZzzKing:
LP has a great deal on one. $2.75 mil. My LDS wanted $4.7 mil for the exact same thing! Those thieves!!!!!

I would highly recommend against purchasing "grey market" submarines at LP. They are probably just a General Dynamics knock off:outtahere

My gear with tanks, suits, camera equipment and other "essential" gear plus some non-essentials was just under $4500. Then the wife's "stuff" was another $3000.

I wouldn't even want to think about how much the cost of our local dive trips and traveling to far away places cost, but I think it would be another $20,000+ over the past few years.

But who really cares how much one spends, the underwater experience is priceless and we do it because we love it and we can. I'm just thankful I can participate in the sport and regret other less fortunate people can't for whatever their reasons may be.

3 sets of doubles....
4 regs......
2 backplates....
2 wings...
2 drysuits...
More fins than feeding time at the aqarium....

Better not to know. Just enjoy the hobby.

Its the recurring costs that really get you. I just figured out that I paid over $33K just in slip rent, $10K for bottom paint and $10K having the bottom cleaned every week over the last 10 years. Next to this, the cost of the boat isn't that bad. And, next to those, the scuba gear is a miniscule.

Seriously, though, the last things I actually bought were tanks and wetsuits. I was just as glad to rent them and let the LDS dry and store them. I am pleased to report that one LDS does free air fills (2 tanks pre day) if you are not a hunter.

Let's see...So far this season I've caught 33 Lobster averaging 1 1/2 lbs each @ $20 / lb = $990. That amortizes the new wetsuit, regulator and parts for the harness. I'm diving for free!!! Math is good!!! ( We won't talk about the seasons I've been skunked)

Is Diving Expensive? Not compared to: Yacht racing, auto racing, truck racing, anything to do with horses. I could get two complete new outfits for what my GF spent on a new couch. And let's not even talk about the Sub-Zero refrigerator she wants.

Oh gods, even with a lot of gifts; it's horrendously expensive, not to mention those added costs here and there, and being an underwater photographer makes the initial costs seem trivial. The gifts have saved a LOT though with mucho gratitude to the various gift givers.

My husband made the tactical blunder of adding up all scuba-related expenses as of about October . . . came up with something over 10K. That's since we got certified in June. Of course, he included ALL the trips we have scheduled for the next year (into September), all course fees, and all equipment.

This is why I don't understand why he's balking at a simple little $100 SPG . . . :)
