Funny !!!
I was having the same discussion with some friends last night. What is more costly diving or hot air ballooning ? Guess whose diving and whose flying. Well I was told that the cost was upfront for the ballooning but for diving it never ends but because I was a darn french I would never admit to it !!!! I think denial is bliss, don't you ???
And they are always happy to call me at 5 am when they need crew for the SO SO CHEAP BALLOON (Yeah right !!!!!).
Anyway I always though that a saving account was for gear and travel. You would not dare tell a french that it is not so, would you ?? LOL

From Mike Veitch
"Funny funny funny...you people need to spend more!!!!
I just spent over $7000 on a single housing for a video camera....thats not even including the camera!!!"

Well I'm working on that, trying to decide if I want to get the D200 and then I'll need lessons on how to use it and take a manta picture !!!!. Isn't it what mortgage are for ??? What do you mean, what house ????

Interesting question posed here.....

I havent added it up yet, but I will in Jan for taxes. Lets see, I dive for the fire rescue/recovery team so everything I spend related to diving is deducted from my taxes.

so far for this year....
Cert classes tax deduct
2 tanks tax deduct
wet suit tax deduct
BC tax deduct
weights tax deduct
dive lights tax deduct
regs tax deduct
dive computer tax deduct
pony and second set of regs tax deduct
dive camera tax deduct
annual equip servicing tax deduct
magazine subscripts (trade pubs LOL) tax deduct

and to top it all off...... Miltary space-A travel to Guam and Hawaii eyebrow

almost makes up for living so far from the water, ALMOST

Let's pray they don't develop the sport of "balloon diving" :11:

There is already a PADI Helicopter diving ticket!

http://www.productreview.com.au/showitem.php?item_id=2777

Take your diving and adrenalin adventures to the next level with this breath-taking helicopter dive! That's right this PADI, NAUI, & SSI Distinctive Specialty Course teaches divers to deplane (jump) from a helicopter as a means of water entry. This technique is used by SAR Divers (Search & Rescue) worldwide, and just so happens to be an awesome, adrenalin pumping thing to do! This is an experience you'll never forget as this is the only place you will be able to do it!

Divers arrive at the helipad approximately 15 minutes prior to commencement time to complete any paperwork, etc.
Divers are then briefed on safety procedures, deplaning operations, helicopter procedures, etc.
Depending on location, divers will then get a practice jump during practical training
Divers then check their gear, and are then flown by helicopter, low level, with doors off! to the drop zone, where they will jump from the helicopter with full scuba gear and proceed with a recreational challenge dive.
Individual Bookings are welcome and will be placed into a group to make up minimum numbers.
A minimum number of 2 divers required (buddy system). 10 divers and over will receive discounted group pricing.
Once divers become certified Heli-Divers they can participate in additional "heli dives" (helicopter insertion dives) starting from Aus$88.00 per diver (Sydney). In addition, the course counts towards your master scuba diver rating and you are awarded credits towards the professional Helicopter Aircrew Officer qualification.
For non - divers you can experience the same thrills with SSI & NAUI certifications on the Heli Snorkel program
What to bring:
Scuba Gear. Gear is available for hire at extra cost. For snorkel option, gear is supplied.
Towel, change of clothes, etc.
Restrictions:
Pre-requisites are PADI Open Water with 10 dives or if SSI & NAUI certifications, they require Open Water diver level.
No restrictions for Heli Snorkel option apart from minimum age of 18 years and be a strong swimmer.
Location: Sydney, NSW
Time of Experience: 1 Day Course / Dive commences from 9am
Availability: All year round, except Christmas Day.

Maybe Princess can start selling SCUBA dives off the aft deck. It's not much more than 100' drop.

"Please make sure to fully inflate your BC, hold your mask and weight belt and take a really big step off the stern. Please make sure to only use aluminum tanks, since the steel tanks leave dings in the props".

I went through the Army Para-diver course long time ago, and that was free - don't know if they still have that, but there is always the Navy Seals - much cheaper, and with a whole bunch of added adventure related stuff. Compared to the cost of regular diving, here, you actually get paid. Other than the nearly being tortured to death, sure saves a lot.

Scruffy Diver:
Thats not a curve that is the begining of a Vortex.
Spare Gear. $1000.00
Photo: $1200.00
Doubles: $3000.00
Rebreather: $15000.00

It never ends.
