Hey all,

I've got a custom open cell wetsuit and have dealt with sunscreen degrading the neoprene on the interior of my suit before (primarily the hood). I talked with the guy that made the suit and he said that this is pretty much unavoidable as any sunscreen will do this to the neoprene. I'm hoping that he's wrong and wanted to check with you guys to see if any of you may know of some sunscreen that won't have this effect.

Thank you!

I assume you mean an unlined neoprene suit, since there are no open cell neoprene suits....they are all closed cell, otherwise they are porous.

Try zinc oxide.

Are you talking about the common chemical based sunscreens that go on and disappear or the zinc based sunscreens that leave a whitish cast to the skin? I use zinc oxide. It lasts longer and works better. I'm hoping it doesn't degrade wetsuits.

I use a zinc oxide/titanium dioxide sunscreen (Blue Lizard Sensitive) and have not noticed any degradation to the neoprene on my wetsuit or beanie.
