Canismajor, now that we know what area of So.Cal. you live, I say check out
http://www.bchcrabs.com/ Good people that do dive on Sunday from time to time.... check out the schedule and watch on the boards. Dive safe and enjoy!

canismajor,

I maybe up for a dive at Deer Creek Sunday morning. Deer Creek is always a nice dive. Lots to see and lots of structure. We have a couple divers from your area, that dive with us.

Let me know, and anyone else that wants to join in, you are welcome.

fellow SCVite... I spoke with the boss, and I think she will be ok for an early Sunday morning dive. She might even go with us(never got her out before)! I still think redondo would be best for you. Yeah there are steps, but there is a rest area at the bottom of the steps, and the steps are really like 1/2 steps... Im even willing to help you up or down as needed!

Rick,
Redondo is a good dive, at night. Not much to see during the day. Deer Creek is an awesome dive and only a couple of steps from the car. I have introduced a number of divers to beach diving here. Great structure, critters, and a good central spot to most areas. My belief is that a divers first beach dive should be a great experiance.

See you soon,
Rick

You should have told me that BEFORE I tried Leo with 3's - 4's rolling in back to back for my first beach dive! :rofl3:

I have to say, I think Redondo is not a good idea, unless the new diver is confident and unfazed by surf. (Dependent of conditions, of course)

I made a number of my OW course and post OW/AOW dives at Redondo, and it never failed to produce a number of anxious moments. I agree with Rickster that if you are going to introduce someone to their first beach dives, do it at a place that inspires confidence.

Now, having said that, it is also imperative for a SoCal beach diver to experience surf conditions that will knock you down and roll you. The fact is you will never be able to completely avoid it and you might as well learn to deal with it.

But not on one's first post OW dives....

This sounds like the best way to get an intro into beach diving. Few steps and an "awesome dive" sounds great! It's also a LOT closer, I think than Redondo.

I truly appreciate all the input and people going out of their way to give us a hand.

This would be my first choice, if possible.

Just for advice, might try enrolling in lascuba.com 3Rs course.

With that in mind, i did my first beach dive off redondo early morning. entry wasn't bad with 3-4 foot waves, just plant your feet and put your shoulder into them and move fast !! :D

I'd be more concerned with water comfort level and poor vis conditions if anything your first time out, but that will most likely come through time.

best regards,
Tony
