Anybody up for a Sunday morning dive with a couple o' noobs? Want to do our first beach dives and although there are some groups that welcome noobs on Saturdays we never seem to have Saturdays available.

Laguna to Santa Barbara. Someplace without a crapload of steps or winding hillside roads would be nice.

Have you not been checking out the dive sites here? There is only 1 or 2 sites like that, that are good for noobs. One is Leo Carillo the West end it's a short walk over sand to the beach but the entry & exit can be tricky. Another one is Pt. Dune but the current there can be too strong for a noob & then theres White Pt. in San Pedro, I've never dove there but it looks pretty easy. Beach Crabs will be at Pt. Dune Sat. & I'll be at Old Marineland In Sun. but that one has a very long path to the water.

Thanks John,

We've definitely been checking out the sites. We were just hoping that someone knew something we didn't. Oh well, guess this is where diving becomes a form of exercise!

BTW, where is "Old Marineland?" That's one I don't know.

Canis, Id go for Divers Cove in Laguna. Plenty of street parking before 0830 (metered) usually, and its a ramp down to the water and not that bad.

The cove is protected from surf and is great for noob entries. I should know, I am one..

Are you closer to Laguna or Santa Barbara? That can make a difference. If I lived near Laguna (which I do), I would take a walk down the steps to Shaws before driving all the way to Santa Barbara. But there are good sites all along the coast there, as long as you are comfortable with surf entries.

I don't have Sundays free, or I would love to go with you guys.

Actually, we're in Canyon Country... Santa Clarita area, so they're both long drives. Probably closest to Malibu. As far as being comfortable with surf entries... wouldn't know. Never made one yet. Got certified 3 weeks ago and this will be the first dive since.

I'm in Marina Del Rey and as soon as I get back from vacation, I'd be available to dive with you. I can't think of any nearby sites without either (a) a hill, (b) steps, (c) a long walk, (d) rocks or (e) strong current. For a newby, my money would be on Redondo Beach with its steps. I recently dove White's Point. It isn't much of a walk, but does entail crawling over some rocks -- albeit not as bad as Malaga Cove.
