Winter access road
Lots of divers there on Monday! A beautiful and warm day.
Pronounced thermocline at 26 feet, pretty warm above it. Viz was about 30 feet.
Pretty chilly below the thermocline, temp was perhaps in the mid-60s. It was still fairly light down to about 65 feet, there was a nice green glow above you. I could still see pretty good without a light. Viz was still about 20 feet.
At about 80 feet it got pretty dark and the visibility was in the 1 to 2 foot range. There was a lot of suspended silt in the water at depth.
At 100 feet the visibility was just a few inches, I proceeded very slowly with a protective hand out in front of my face. Obviously it was totally dark. Temperature was 61 degrees.
At 100 feet I came across a vertical drop-off, due north (magnetic) from the beach. It was mud, like the edge of an eroded stream bed. Anyone ever see this before? Given that I was near the MOD of my back gas, the viz was inches, and I was alone, I didn't drop over the edge to see how far down it went. Maybe next time I'll use something like EAN24 and see where it goes.
