Hey all!

I just started as an intern at Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge, and am trying to figure out a good deal of information about diving around here. I've been thinking about trying to just do a shore dive off of the beach on isle of palms, but no one i ask seems to know about the laws regarding diving around here (including the department of recreation...) Do i need a dive flag?

Is there any good diving around here that isnt from a charter? As an intern my money flow does not allow for me to both go on a boat and eat, and eating I find less optional.

Lastly, are there any divers around here who wouldnt mind another buddy tagging along? I would really appreciate the opportunity to get to know the local diving areas, not to mention you guys :P

(Just as background, I just completed both my NAUI master diver and rescue diver certifications, and have roughly 50 dives logged. Ive done freshwater and saltwater, and am comfortable with basically anything.)

Thanks!
Keith

Keith,
I lived in Charleston for 40 years. Shore diving is almost non-existent as the shore slopes out VERY gradually and the viz stinks so there are really no regulations that I am aware of. I would suggest that you hook-up with one of the local dive shops and find people that have a boat and would be willing to let you pay a portion of the costs to dive.
