I'm planning a trip to Indonesia and want to dive Wakatobi. I'm wondering where in Wakatobi has the best diving (North or Southeast), as well as where to stay. My travel agent says the only good place is the Wakatobi resort, but over 500$ a day seems absurd. I know Wakatobi is expensive, but that's a little over the top. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

We stayed at the resort. The coral and fish were superb. Boats go out 2 or 3 times a day and there is good variety. If you look elsewhere be sure to add up travel time, costs, extras in the comparison.

We just got back from a week at the resort this past weekend. It's definitely a splurge, but they run a pretty amazing operation. Three guided boat dives a day and then easy access to their house reef. Service at the resort is outstanding. No hassle travel from Bali on a charter flight. No regrets at all for us.
