Suggestions: Sea Urchins - through the knee.

Just bought a CF 200 DUI- great suit- but... just drove a sea Urchin spine through the knee while bugging.

Does anybody make any ballistics / Kevlar material you can fasten to the knees- I suppose PVC knee pads but that sound kind of extreem.

Ideas???

Yikes, that must have hurt!!!!! I'd check with DUI to see if they couldn't provide these for you. Did you get any bugs?????

Get kevlar knee pads put on it, it what many of us up here in the Pacific North west use. I dread the drift dives along a cut loaded with big red urchins. Stay off the wall, stay off the wall, stay off the wall (my mantra) at 3-4 knots.

LOL! Looks like Santa Barbara Island.

Yes I got at least 8 2 pounders. The issue is I tend to dive real heavy and in Newengland its a real dragg dodging these things - not to mention it must suck being a sea urchin and getting crunched.....

I'll try some Kevlar.

DUI makes kevlar pads, though they are way expensive if I remember correctly...something like a couple hundred bucks if I am not mistaken, but that might be installed...

However, isn't kevlar more effective against abrasion as opposed to puncture? I though I remember kevlar be contraindicated in the some medical uses since needles can get through. But it has been a while and I may be totally mistaken...

Kevlar is more effective at abbrasion yes. I don't know about diving, but I know law enforcement wise it's much more effective at stopping a slash with a knife than a stab. it's definitely better than neoprene tho.
