I'm a Fish!
Hi all,

A friend of mine is coming down in a few weeks to the Tampa area & wants to do some diving. Any suggestions? I'm going to recommend the shark tooth dive but don't know of anything else over in the Gulf Coast area. Has to be dive boat type of diving unless anyone has any other suggestions.

Thanks,
Terry

There are some good artificial reefs (the Sheridan wreck is favorite of mine) and ledges in the Gulf. I haven't been out lately so I don't know of the conditions. Here are a few links to local dive shops, they should be able to assist you...

Depth Perception - Tampa - http://depthperception.com/
Narcosis Scuba - Tarpon Springs - http://www.narcosisscuba.com/
Treasure Island Divers - St. Pete - http://www.diveti.com/
Jim's Dive Shop - St. Pete - http://www.jimsdiveshop.com/
Bill Jackson's - Pinellas Park - http://www.billjacksons.com/scuba.htm

If you guys set up a trip, post the info on SB.

TI Divers are gone.........

When did they close? It seems like I talked to them recently, but I guess it was longer than I thought. Hmm...

Go figure...........A friends son got certified by TI a couple of months ago and suggested I try them out. I found their web site, got their phone number and called last friday and got the "phone disconnected" message so I rode over Saturday to the shop and it was boarded up and closed. If you hear anything about them let me know, OK?

I'll check around and see what I can find out. I liked that shop and I hope they re-open!

I think it would be worth your time to drive up a bit to Clearwater and dive with
a charter named Tanks-o-Lot. They are very friendly and run out a bit farther
then some of the other gulf charters which by the way are few and far between.
The viz seems a bit better on average in that area, I've had a number of pretty decent dives with them. They're very laid back and a diver friendly operator, and
after the diving Clearwater beach is pretty nice as well ! The prices are higher
than the east coast charters due to the extra fuel they use getting to some of the sites so you can expect maybe 90.00 dollars for a two tank trip but they will run out 20 miles for some decent sites and viz, good luck !

Ben runs an excellent boat for sure. I've been out with him lots of times and all were enjoyable. I think he sold one of his boats recently due to the red tide problems last summer. Unless he has raised his rates he was charging $60 for a 2 tank dive and Mike Miller is a great DM too.
