I am heading to Cancun for a long weekend (July 1-5) and would like to get as much diving in as possible. Ideally I wanted to save the last day to go snorkeling with the whale sharks but my flight is at 4:20pm and apparently I wont make it back in time. Obviously a real shame as snorkeling the last day seemed perfect.

So unless I can find an organization that I can use to snorkel with the whale sharks and get me to the airport by 2:30pm on the 5th, I basically only have 2 full days of diving and maybe a night dive.
Should I stay in Cancun and do 2 4-dive days?
Should I use one of those days to head out to the Cenotes? or Cozumel?

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

We just spent 6 days diving with Alvaro from alwaysdiving.com and cannot say enough good about him. He's running the house shop at Oceans H10 in Playa del Carmen right now, but he dives all over Cancun, Playa and Cozumel. We did 9 dives off Cancun, 3 off Playa and 2 cenote dives. All were fabulous. Two nurse sharks and a gray reef shark this year. Plus two green morays, six turtles (and technically shot some turtle porn, if the video turns out. It was long distance, and we didn't want to swim closer and disturb them...) and, sadly, five lionfish.

We also had one day planned to dive with Scorpio Divers, but had to cancel. :(

You cannot go wrong with either of these.

I think if I only had two days in Cancun I'd give Cozumel a pass. We did go from Cancun to Playa for a 3 tank dive, and that was a long day. By the time you add in the transit time for Cozumel, I think it might be too long. There's plenty of outstanding diving in and around Cancun. I'd use my time diving, not driving.

dasalomon,

if you do a search for Cancun diving you will see that the majority of us dive with Ben Mooney @ Scorpio divers. He has a big following on SB. There are plenty of happy customers and reports on Canucun diving.

Dirty Dog is correct, Coz is a long trip and there is plenty of good diving in the Cancun/Puerto Morales area.

Thanks! I definitely prefer diving to driving. So, Cozumel will have to be another time. Very excited about all the diving in Cancun though! can't wait.

It's all about the diving....however, with Ben and Jorge, it's after hours as well. They go out to these local places that have great food and are not expensive. There are still a lot of places that don't kill your wallet, although we usually hit Captain's Cove one night. Last year we got some good pics of the two crocs until the dock. They were pretty good sized too!

You'll have a great time!
