It's been a while since we have announced new release of Subsurface on ScubaBoard, and a lot has happened since then. I suppose the most notable changes in desktop version are new map widget, plenty of improvements in planner, support for some new dive computers, support for BLE (BlueTooth low energy) download and a lot of bugs squashed.

Subsurface-mobile has received a face lift and now series 2.0 of Subsurface-mobile is available for both Android and iPhone. GPS tracking has been enabled for iOS and download from BLE dive computers is possible on iPhone. (Android supports also traditional BlueTooth.)

More detailed information about new stuff is available on our news page. And as always, binaries for Windows, Mac, generic Linux and a number of specific Linux distributions are available from our download page. Mobile versions are available in Google's and Apple's app stores.

In a two diver family, each with their own DC, what's the bast way to keep Subsurface from seeing the two computers as separate divers instead of it, apparently, thinking it's two computers on one diver (like a tri-mix diver)?

Subsurface allows multiple users on the same computer to set up their own profile, and you do that via the shortcut that you use to run the executable.

In the target line of the shortcut type the following command:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Subsurface\subsurface.exe" --user=yournamehere

Of course, you substitute your desired profile name where it says yournamehere.

Subsurface will open to a new, blank profile in which you can configure all the user settings including a network password and email address.

If you access subsurface from more than one computer than you can get fancy like I do and sync the folder containing the Subsurface folder and files between two or more computers using an online service such as Google Backup and Sync, copy the shortcut to the two or more computers that you use, and you'll be all set.

We (my son and I) both have Suunto Cobra computer, what I've found is that Subsurface shows my son's computer as a second computer for me (attaching it as a second DC on the same dive), not a separate diver (him) diving at the same time.

Sounds to me like you're not using the program correctly. If you're in your subsurface profile (which contains your own unique online profile and locally stored logbook) and you connect your computer only, it will import the data from your computer into your profile. Then you log out of your profile, into your sons profile (which has it's own logbook and online profile) and hook up his computer.

    Many thanks...

Should I scrub my current install and start over to remove my son's information and start over?

Depends on how many dives you're dealing with and how much information you entered into each one. If you haven't done much then I'd lean towards starting over. If you did a lot of work, then you can simply delete the dives that aren't yours.

It's really not that complicated- just make sure you have in fact created a unique user profile including user name, password, and email address (which is used to access online cloud storage) for each user, regardless of whether you share a computer or not. Use the shortcut template I provided to create a shortcut for each user so when subsurface opens it defaults to that particular user.

By the way the mobile version doesn't require that much work it uses the profile email and password to access the logbook stored in the cloud. Make sure that when you finish a session you save it to your local logbook AND to cloud storage so they both reflect the updated information.
