The boats you where on must have been surfacing/ventilating/snorkeling a lot. That's the only time I noticed pressure changes.

Not on the two boats I was stationed on, we were equalizing pretty often! It sucked when I'd wake up from a headache because of pressure changes

Yup, that and air charges, equalizing headers, shooting waterslugs, changing ventilation line ups...
