Greetings Stormingheaven!
It is my pleasure to welcome you to SB! There have been some great posts to your questions. Your responses are well noted and understood. I think most of the issues but one have been covered.
Make sure when diving local waters you abide by all the state requirements; surface markers, dive flags, etc. This is a very important necessity as boats usually win when they hit you! I am not making light of a potentially serious problem.
In my local area we have found many, far too many boaters to be ignorant of local regulations concerning divers in the water! Be very conscious and proactive on this front, do not be afraid to call the DNR. They enjoy educating ignorant boaters, jet ski operators and the like.
This may sound harsh to some but let the jet skis buzz over your marker a few times and your attitude will change fast!
Enough on that topic and I would encourage you to pursue the practice you are wanting.
Practice makes perfect use every chance you get to practice skills till they become habit. My instructor always encouraged us to be conservative and overly cautious when we were starting out. Always dive with in our limits and with a buddy. I know that sounds tough but that was what encouraged me to get involved in dive training.
The extra time in the water around training was incredible and I learned so much helping out.
Be encouraged and your positive training attitude will serve you well in the future!
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
CamG Keep diving....keep training....keep learning!
