I am putting together my first gear package and can't decide which reg to go with. I have read countless threads and have narrowed it down between three.

-Scubapro MK16/S550- Seems like everyone says good things about scubapro(including my instructor)

-Sherwood Magnum- We only have one dive shop were I am from and they carry Sherwood and Tusa. Maintance close by.

-Aqualung Legend- Have heard alot of good things about this one.

-Zeagle Envoy- Like the lifetime warrenty and made in US.

Please let me know what you guys think about these, as well as if you know of any in price range that are any better.

Thanks in advance

for me, it'd be between the Subapro and the Zeagle, with two factors
tipping the scales:

1. price; and

2. can you get it serviced near you? (i.e. is there a dive shop that sells them
nearby)

fwiw, most people rank the top reg makers, in no particular order, as
Apeks, Atomic, Poseidon, Scubapro and Zeagle

Sorry Andy, but it appears to me that most people put Aqua Lung in that same list. While the Poseidon's have their proponents, they appear to be too unique and over-priced for most folks. Of course, these are just my thoughts.

I'm not sure you can go wrong with any of the regs you've listed. Personally, I just bought the AL Legend.

The MK16 has been discontinued by Scubapro. It is still serviceable by Scubapro and a good Reg, but I would opt for the new MK17 myself.

Not an expert; so far, althought Mk17 is not on the market for v. long but because it's a sealed 1st stage, gains a lot of popularity, but then also because it's new, some people would actually prefer to wait for a bit...

Again, there are more SP experts here to ask for more valuable input, but since you mentioned Mk16, just wanted to remind Aquamaster commented on Mk16 before (see below) and maybe you want to ask him and others...

Finally, just my 2 pennies. Brand name is important, but which particular model(s) for a certain brand name works better than the others is even more important. Just my opinion...

It's a good reg from your list if I had no other choices it would be #3

#4 on my list as would Tusa be #5

-Aqualung Legend- Have heard alot of good things about this one.
#2 of all the choices

-Zeagle Envoy- Like the lifetime warrenty and made in US.
#1 only if you aren't in places where service may be an issue

OCEANIC DELTA 4 FDX10, I'm biased but you can find some not biased views on here. It is by far the best bang for buck reg out there and Rodales Scubadiving agrees, it won best reg under $500

Thanks in advance

Hope this helps!

be careful with Rodales reviews. they can be wildly unpredictable, and sometimes
downright biased towards their advertisers

for under $400, you can get the Apeks 40, 50, and ATX 100, the ScubaPro Mk.
25 combos (and lower), and the Zeagle Envoy and Flathead, all of whom would
give Oceanic a run for its money.

not to mention the Salvo (Apeks clones) or the Dive Rite RG series regs.

that said, the Delta 4 looks like a nice reg, but i think it's overpriced when
compared to the regs listed above.

yep. many people do list Aqualung up there. it's a subjective thing.
based on my experience (mostly keeping my ears open), i would not list
Aqualung up there.

as to Poseidon, i reached the same conclusion as you, just in terms of
costs of maintenance and accessibility. i list them because so many old
timers swear by them.

Andy,
I've been researching on the internet and at local dive shops and it seems the ScubaPro MK25/s600 is more expensive then the Oceanic Delta4 reg..I may be wrong, anyway what is your opinion between these two, note I'm a Newbie but will be purchasing one of the two soon,so honest opinions are needed. Thanks
Lanny

Thaniks everyone for the reply's. Not to throw more gas on the fire, but I recently started reading about the atomic Z2. Anyone know anything about this regulator?

Thanks

Another vote for scubapro!
great breathing reg easy to get service in most areas.
(although I would choose the MK25/s600 combo)
I personally own 4 scubapro regs,2 aqua lung regs, and 6 cochran regs
2 x mk25/s600
1 x mk20/g500
1 x mk20/s550
1 x black pearl
1 x titan lx
6 x older cochran regs
I use the scubapro's for all tech dives and the black pearl as a deco reg.
all the regs above perform well but the hose routing and service ability of the scubapros make them first choice.
Hope this helps out.
