I just moved to Stuart (from Syracuse) and am trying to connect with the local dive flavor. Is there a club, forum and/or shop anyone can recommend? Also looking for some shore dive spots, I already dove the Blue Heron bridge site. Thanks in advance......

Head into Deep Six Jensen or Stuart... They have a list of local shrore diving dites from Bathtub to Sebastian Inlet... If you have a boat, go to Stlucieco.gov and type in reefs. You will find numbers for artifitial dive sites from 30-100 FSW.

There's a great dive club located out of Melbourne that I belong to, and they have a lot of active divers. It's Down Under Dive Club. We have a first Saturday of the month dive on Little Deeper based out of Riviera Beach. There are always other things going on such as vacations, dive trips, day trips, get togethers, what have you. It's a very active group with wonderful people!

Thanks jupitermermaid. This might be just what we are looking for. We left behind a great shop/club in NY that offered the same. I see you are from Jupiter, do you travel from Jupiter to Melbourne to be involved in this club or do they have a sub in Jupiter? Do they have a website I can checkout?

Yes, check out Down Under Dive Club - Home for club info. There meetings are actually in Melbourne (which I haven't attended as of yet), but they frequently dive down in these parts, in which I'm very active in. I'd be happy to dive with you any time you'd like to come down this way....either drift diving through JDC, Little Deeper, Jim Abernethy, Narcosis, or The BHB, or wherever else you'd like to investigate. A group of us from the DUDC are leaving this Sat. for the Exumas aboard the Aqua Cat live aboard, and are planning a Roatan trip in March/April. We're talking about a Little Cayman get away also, so there are always things going on. Keep in touch, and I'll keep you up to date.

Thanks again. The DUDC website looks very good and I'm sure we will connect at some point down the road. I have already been to JDC and am planning on getting out with them soon. We did a live-a-board last June to St Kitts & Saba and a trip to St Lucia in December. I'm very interested in your Roatan trip. Have a great time on the Aqua Cat!

JupiterMermaid - I can not believe you are not a member of and promote your own local club Jupiter Drift Divers

Welcome to FLorida! -- Whew.. *ack* that was hard to get out I almost choked on it, to a NY'r no less. Kinda like kissing a Fireman.. *wretch*.

I have not been diving in the South County that much though I should since I moved to the SOuth COunty area. The 1715 Plate Fleet Sank here and you always have the chance of finding treasure here, about the same chance as catching AirbourneRectalMonkeyOtsis but you have a chance nonetheless.

For beach diving I like Pepper Park and swiming out to look at the same reef the Navy Seal Team 1 blew up I think that is pretty cool. (the history part not the actual blowing up of Reef).

South of here is the Great Reef structure of Jupiter (actually Juno) but it is great.

There are good wrecks in Boyton Beach with some interesting reef lines there as well. The link is the only boat I dive in this area.

Pompano has some GREAT wrecks! If wrecking is your playground this is the place to play.

West Palm beach is the Disney of FLorida diving... keep your hands and feet in the ride at all times and stay seated until we come to a complete stop...

When you can get a long weekend off... pack your bag and hit the FLORIDA KEYS!! Too many sites to list. THis is when the GIANT Flying COckroaches, lizards in your kitchen, 98 Degrees at 0200 hrs, Sweaty Yentas and yelling Brooklyner's all seem tolerable because for a tank of gas and $55.00 for a room you are Vacationing in the KEYS!! -- pass the conch chowder and Kalik!!

Thanks DM Orlando. I know it was difficult to welcome another NY'r but if it helps, I'm from Upstate NY. Upstate and downstate NY are like two different countries! Not that downstate is "bad", we're just different - that's all.

Thanks for all the info - I have a flyer for Jupiter Drift Divers and I'll definitely check out Pepper Park. I'd sure like to find a shore dive that gets me to 50+ feet around here. Yes, I like wrecks and have dove the Spegiel, Dwayne (sp) and several others in FL. Also have been to several springs. I've been to JDC and plan to get out with them soon.

OE, sorry about not mentioning Jupiter Drift Divers. You can spank me with a rubber hose for neglecting them :-). I've been to a couple of their meetings, but have not dove with them yet.
DUCDC offers dives at least once a month, I dive with other members fairly frequently, and go on some of their trips.

SP, Do you want or need info on the Roatan trip? It's going to be during my spring break, March 29 to April 5, 2009. I'll give you the contact person's email if you're interested.

Have you dove with Jupiter Dive Center yet? I just got back from Bonaire and am catching up with all my stuff. The Aqua Cat was fantastic! The boat and crew were marvelous, and the diving was pretty good. Some sites were better than others. After a week of rest, I left again for a week in Bonaire. Supurb diving!!!!!!

Now that I'm back home I need a JDC fix, so will probably go out with them this week before I have to go back to work next Monday. Where did the summer go??????
