Hi

I use a Sea & Sea ys-60 and a digital adapter.
It has worked great for me. It's a bit more of a DIY approach but it can be quite a bit cheaper than buying a brand spanking new strobe. You can find used ys-60 strobes for about $200.

I have a S230 digital elph.

If you are into Macro you may not need all the power of a DS 125. It would be more useful to have a smaller more manuevarable strobe with infinite power settings.

If you want to do wide angle, then the power becomes very handy.

If you are just a casual "been there and done that" type, I think an extra strobe would not be well utilized.

I have a Bonica that I use with my Canon and like it really well. I also have used it with my Reefmaster. Very versatile strobe for very little money.

Jan,

I am looking to get a new strobe and may end up a with a new camera too. What does the Bonica do to mask the on camera flash so there is little backscatter? Is there a fiber optic link or does it flash off of the camera's flash? Thanks.

To mask the internal strobe, you can just use electrical black tape or whatever to block the light from coming out.

Sometimes when the tape or mask somehow comes off, I just use my fingers to block it.
