I too wouldn't head to the 5060 but I would find another 5050.

I would head for Inon. I would get 220s instead of the D2000 - if you ever decide to upgrade your kit to dslr the 220s will go with you. The D2000 will be limited.

I have moved from Canon over to the 5060 with PT020 and Sea & Sea YS120ttl strobe.
I simply use the ys120 on slave mode and it has never failed to be triggered by the 5060s internal flash (which I set to slave setting 1).
I now alwas shoot in manual mode thus allowing me to fine tune the settings as the lighting/subject dictate.
I must also say that I am really impressed by the 5060s image quality and that super macro with the ys120 is very good.

Same here. I still love my Ikelite housing but I know of 3 housing over the last couple months that have flooded because of the tray bolt not being tight enough. That is a flood in DSLR housing destroying bodies and lens worth over $2000 each.

Housing floods are just part of the game.

The proportion to Oly housing flooding to the number of housing on the market is proportional. You will always here more from the people that experience a flood, than from the perfectly happy customers.

I'm in the midst of aquiring a D70 with ike housing - is the bolt then something that should be checked before every dive then? This is the first I've heard of flooding because of that - but I haven't really read too much from people about them to this point.

DrSteve:
I am finally going to take the plunge (soon) and go digital. My wife has a c5050 which is great. I am thinking of getting a 5060 simply because it is the newer model, the same price and eventually the 5050 will go obsolete (if it hasn't already gone out of production) and the 5060 has some kind of TTL slave/strobe trigger. The arguement of an extra stop on the aperture doesn't sway me much.

So here's the plan. I get a 5060 with Oly PC housing. We buy a strobe and arm etc., Dee has always sworn by the Inon strobes (I think) so I'll probably eer in that direction. But I want to get a strobe that I can use on the 5050 and the 5060 (although not both at the same time). Is this option available to us?

Then there's always the thought of getting a housing for the camcorder plus video light. Damn all these options!

Cheers!

Steve,

There are so many options but I think that I am going with the D-2000. It seems that Ion has a good reputation, and I like the size of the strobe. The Guide Number may be lower then some, but it should suit my needs. If I eventually go the DSLR route later down the road I will just get another strobe.

Good Luck..
