I am finally going to take the plunge (soon) and go digital. My wife has a c5050 which is great. I am thinking of getting a 5060 simply because it is the newer model, the same price and eventually the 5050 will go obsolete (if it hasn't already gone out of production) and the 5060 has some kind of TTL slave/strobe trigger. The arguement of an extra stop on the aperture doesn't sway me much.

So here's the plan. I get a 5060 with Oly PC housing. We buy a strobe and arm etc., Dee has always sworn by the Inon strobes (I think) so I'll probably eer in that direction. But I want to get a strobe that I can use on the 5050 and the 5060 (although not both at the same time). Is this option available to us?

Then there's always the thought of getting a housing for the camcorder plus video light. Damn all these options!

Cheers!

I am using a D180 with my 5050, it works great and is a lot more compact than a lot of other strobes. I think the D2000 replaced it and is very similar.

If you decide on the 5060, I know where you can get a almost new Oly housing for it.

I have a complete 5050 setup for sale in classifieds if you are interested. I was never convinced that the 5060 was a step up from the 5050.

Complete Setup Including Camera
Included Contents:
Olympus C5050z 5 Megapixel Camera
Olympus PT-015 Underwater Housing
Ulight Control System Digial Tray with Padded Handle
2 Ikelite double ball arms with clamps
Inon D180 Auto Strobe with ULCS base adapter.
Sea and Sea Wide Angle Wet Lens

I wouldn't... wait... I did. My new unflooded 5060 should be here this coming Friday (thank you DEPP) where it can find a new home inside the new Ikelite housing I bought for it, so it'd be less likely to happen again.

Of course, if you want to buy a Oly PT-020 housing that's only been used four times....

Detonate helped convince me that I should go with a 5050 and an Inon D-180 strobe :)

For what it's worth, my Olympus has never flooded after 6 months of use.

My D70 in an Ikelite housing flooded after only 3 months of use.

Insurance for camera equipment is cheap, and I highly recommend it.

I have just bought a 5060 and I am going with the ike housing with the wide angle dome port. I am now trying to figure out which strobe to go with, the ike ds-125 or the inon equivalent. Any suggestions?

I have an inon D180s strobe for sale if anyone is interested.

Just relaying my experience, particularly since I've seen a number of people reporting the exact same problem I experienced, specifically with the PT-020 (and many also saying they'd never had a problem). DEPP's replacing the camera, but it's been hard going for four weeks without the camera, since I dive fairly frequently, plus I don't like to risk losing pictures.

Same here. I still love my Ikelite housing but I know of 3 housing over the last couple months that have flooded because of the tray bolt not being tight enough. That is a flood in DSLR housing destroying bodies and lens worth over $2000 each.

Housing floods are just part of the game.

The proportion to Oly housing flooding to the number of housing on the market is proportional. You will always here more from the people that experience a flood, than from the perfectly happy customers.
