Hi guys,

I want to take my camera, housing & strobe in my hand luggage on the plane.

Anyone ever been prevented from doing this?

Thanks

I do it all the time. I suppose the only reason for it to be denied would be because of weight/size restrictions.....

Pack it up, just get ready to have it all unpacked, swabbed for explosives, and looked at real funny when it runs through the Xray

My photo gear along with laptop, regs, computers, masks and snorkels go in my carry on.
It is a maxi sized carry on.
I've been asked "Scuba gear?" and even been asked to open the bag but never stopped from carrying it on.

TSA in Kona once asked us to remove batteries from dive lights in checked luggage, their concern was fire hazard. The few trips I've taken, no one's ever made anything of all the strobes or other hardware.

I guess I had a similar question. I have the Pelican 1600 case to carry my housing, strobe and dome. I wish the case had wheels on it. Will that fit as a carry on?

Hmm....I believe it will fit. Is it the same dimensions as the wheeled model?

Problem with those are that people know they are heavy and tend to check them for weight restrictions. The bag alone can weigh up to much more than half your carry on allowance. I have since bought the lightest Samsonite out there with 4 wheels under it. I scoot it around as if it weighs nothing....

It is about half the size as the big one with the wheels. I may have to get a smaller bag that has wheels on it. Just wish it had the foam cut outs. Any idea as to how you keep everything from banging around in there?

Thanks for your replies guys.

If you like the cut foam you can buy it from Pelican, maybe others, and shape it to fit your bag. I use bubble wrap because it's cheap and I can get more gear to fit in the bag.
