I was checking out some of Olympus's newer cameras and noticed that they are now offering a housing for their strobes (with ttl) too...would this be a good choice? Would it more have advantages than a true UW strobe? Disadvantages?
I can come up with one disadvantage and that is that I couldn't turn the light on to stay on like I can on my D180...

One of the disadvantages is the strobes are still too close to the lens, so likely to have backscatter. You also can't get them wiiiiide for WA shots. But still better than just the onboard flash.

With the sync cord and arm extension, you should be able to move the strobe as far as you need. However many of the land strobes are a bit underpowered for underwater wide angle use but are very good for macro.
