RoatanMan:
Utila just opened their first McDonalds but it is located on the third floor of the Galeria in the food court down from Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in Paradise and next to the Golden Corral Buffet.

That's already way more entertainment and American kitsch than I need.

RoatanMan:
Yeah, Carlos & Charlies~ that would be on Guanaja.

For Starbucks... that's on Roatan.

:rofl3:
Now I'm gonna have to walk around town tonight looking for the McDonalds!
Big Mac here I come. Heck, I'd settle for a Happy Meal as long as I got a cool toy in it.
Yeah I know, I can hear Doc now 'Blondes will believe anything'.
;)

As you well know- or at least you heard the story- I, too used to be blonde as well.

Did they get the escalators running in the La Galeria de Utila with the new generator?

Utila was great. No 2 ways about it. We were there too early in the season to see the whale sharks but plan on going back 3/08. Weather you have a good experience or a great one all depends on your attitude. Be sure to stop by the Utila Lodge to say hello to Queen Ann and buy Willie a beer.

UTLgirl:
Hi Doc,

Yep they got the escalaters running, but then the power went off yesterday & I got stranded on one for 2 hours!

How do you get stranded on an escalator?? :blinking: :D

Two words: Ba lond :rofl3:

She woulda' used the stairs but the "UP" ones were out of order.

Say "UTLGirl"... you getting any diving in or is it the same crummy old 9-5?

Did the Bay Islands NASCAR Track go operational or are they still mucking up the surface streets with the Formula 1 Gran Prix racers?

Not much diving for me these days, the ears have gotten less & less cooperative the older I get, but have been getting in some great snorkling!

Just like Roatan - you have a South side and a North side. Most would agree that while you are there, try to do as much North side as possible, it has far better diving. I am sure most of the Utila experts on this board will agree.

Not to say there isn't some nice diving on the south side. Make sure you get a trip to Black Hills as well.

I'll bet cudabait was one of the B*stards who kept trying to run me down yesterday. I can't get used to these damn bikes over here, no engine noise to warn you of their approach!

hey folks

in regards to diving in Utila i was here two years ago and enjoyed my first diving experiance so much i am now an instructor! i had a two year break from the island and loved the place ppl and diving so much im back. I have been diving around central america and a couple of places in the EU. i admit the coral isnt as vibrante here as in say little corn or other dive sights around the world but there is variety in everything fromm the coral to the fish. variety with in all the great dive schools on the island. remember its not just the coral that make a great dive great!
