I'm a big fan of a snorkel keeper as well. I actually have something that's looks almost exactly like a snorkel keeper, but the bigger end is a square instead of a circle....it's the best octo holder I've found.

Peace,
Cathie

The Diverite octo holder is very similar to the one which comes with the Zeagle Ranger BC. I have 1.

I use a real thin bungee material (picked it up at a boaters supply store) that works great, and I've used the snorkel keeper. I've attached them to gate clips (I don't like snap clips) or directly to the BC. I've never used a D-ring as the holder, but will try it to see how it works.

Yes, I keep several of those in my Save-a-Dive kit ... and whenever I see someone on the beach dangling a loose octo I give them a "present" and explain why it's a good idea to use it.

anyone got a pic of these "modified" snorkel keepers? just curious

... Dive Rite makes a nifty octo holder of which Andy has also made mention; the plastic snap bolt clip secures to the BC's D ring. It's only about $3.95....
Here is a photo of it:

Oh, is THAT what that is!! My non-diving SO-at-the-time gave me one for Christmas and I was wondering what to do with it. Personally, when I dove a conventional rental rig, I used the snorkel keeper solution, but now I'm moving to a long hose config so I won't be needing anything to retain an octo with.

Ive got a cheap plastic octo holder on a bolt snap type clip. In fact, identical to the one FreeFloat posted other than the clip to go on a BC D-Ring. I always take my kit with me but if needed i could just unclip it from my jacket and take it with me to fit on rented kit.

thank you, freefloat!
