Well, my birth name is Blase, a variant of Blaise, and the english translation of that name is "Stutterer" (I don't stutter by the way). Disappointed with such a dreadful meaning, I began digging for a better one. When I came across a celtic store on the internet that had a "meaning of names" section, much to my surprise, I found my name as I spell it. What was the celtic translation you ask - Firebrand. (I like it, but my wife's family calls me "Scortch.") I know that fire and water don't really mix, but I grew up on the beaches of Florida, and I love the water and I love scuba diving.

mine is pretty much self explanitory

pipedope:
When I joined SB I was a working commercial diver in central Florida.
Most of the work is inside storm water drain pipes and I was dope enough to keep doing it. :D

Besides, I like a name that doesn't sound too serious.

And I thought it was for that white goop that goes on metal piping before connecting or welding it.....but now I guess I'll have to take you seriously.

I'm addicted to diving. What more can I say :06:

Ditto! theskull does sound to foreboding!

So, what kind of puppy was it?

A Papillon. Now have 3 of them and an Australian Shepherd. And 2 cats. All of them have skulls.

I think you've really blown your SB image now...

The Ron part is pretty obvious. The Dawg part takes a bit of explaining...

I got this name about 10 years ago. My patrol partner at that time invited me to a party at his house, a surprise birthday party for his then-wife. Among the other people he invited was his best friend (non-cop) and best man at BOTH his weddings. By the time I arrived, his buddy was pretty intoxicated.

For reasons yet unknown to me, he simply started calling me "The Ron Dawg." Pretty soon everybody else at the party (most of whom I've never met before) started calling me the same thing.

Then, when my partner started referring to me by that name at work, some others started calling me that too. So I'm stuck with it, though many simply abbreviate it "R.D."

Excellent picture of Papillons! Thanx!

If I had a SB image, probably best that it be blown. Come dive with me. We'll have a good time. THAT'S what it's all about.

Feel free to use it as your avatar... :D I found it with a quick Internet search, but I don't think anyone would object (or legally could) for that unprofitable purpose. ;)

Like Rick said, when you read "theskull" sinister and evil images come to mind, not some cute little furry puppy that never gets big!

If I ever make it to MO, I will let you know. I'm actually planning on a cross country drive from AZ to NJ in the next year or two, so it's pretty likely to happen. I agree, having a good time is what it's all about!
