Never seen wing nuts with the inserts but I buy SS nuts with the inserts from Lowes all the time for boat projects.

I have never seen wingnuts with nylon inserts either.

What they are talking about here is regular nuts with nylon inserts that you are using. They are designed to resist coming undone. I have used these for years and they work great. They about .50 cents to a $1 depending on the size. You will need to install them with a wrench. Once in place I have never had one even think about coming loose.

Buy the SS version not the plated ones as the plated ones will look nasty pretty quickly in saltwater.

No duct tape in you UW pocket???

Thank heavens for those little voices, eh?

Or just do like OE2X (during our Fundies class) and try diving your tank "sidemount" ... :11:

... Bob (Grateful Diver)

I knew I was progressive. Just wait until GUE certifies us to swim facing the surface. Then we'll see who see who laughs last. ;)

In my case I found my wingnut. I torked them on with pump pliers. Not sure if they'll ever come off.

This sounds like a good story. Do either of you feel like sharing it?

Give your nuts a tweak before you put on your BP/W...

I have got to admit my mind got a little off topic here. LOL.

Sure. Here goes.
The first day of fundies was my first day diving a BPW. Brando had us fiddling with the STA and harness. I had pretty much gotten the sizing down beforehand but went through the process anyway. What I didn't do though was to grab the pump pliers and tighten down the wing nut. First dive of the class and I get into the water. Things are going o.k. if I want to be generous. As the first set of drills is progressing I notice that my tank is flopping around on my back. We were doing drills by swimming along a line placed on the bottom. After the third time or so down the line I notice that there is an SS wing nut on the bottom. I pick it up and continue the drills. For me this dive was a real cluster. Even if the tank hadn't been flopping around on my back, it still wouldn't have changed the outcome. I did manage to finish the dive, but as Bob said, it was more of a side mount.

As to swimming on my back:
Well Pug, Bob, Snowbear and just about any other GUE trained buddy likes to tease me about how I will spend half or more of my time on my side or back looking up. I stay just beneath my buddy and will be seen frog kicking along. I've got it pretty dialed to be able to hold my depth within a foot or so. It's really a lot of fun when diving on a wall or on the outside of a wreck. My buddy becomes part of the scenery and the way I figure it, it looks like many of the images that you see in Advanced Diver Magazine. While my friends like to chide me, I really think they are just jealous. BTW - I really like to ascend face up the 10' to the surface. When holding this stop in blue water, watching the surface waves or rain is a nice way to spend your time. Truth be told - I saw Uncle Pug do this when I first started diving with him. Imitation is the highest form of flattery I figure.
