I have read in some of the posts here the term stoning? Could anyone explain it to me? I'm new to diving and have no experience with spear fishing but hope to give it a try when I'm a little more experienced as a diver. Thanks

A CNS hit on a fish that leaves it Dead or "quivering". either way it's a K.O. .

Wayward Son:
It means to hit them so they're dead on impact, no fighting. A brain or spine shot will stone them.

Do you need a special shaped stone? I've tried all kinds of shapes and the fish always move before the rocks hit them.

Ditto, as in serious nerve damage.

Hank - LOFL. :)
Stone means to pierce with a spearshaft into the fish brain so they are stone (spear-penetrated) dead. It's more accuracy than the shape of the instrument, but we use spears - not rocks :)

It doesn;t have to strike the brain to stone a fish. Any CNS hit will do.

Whatever works for you. You can use a bong for all I care. I prefer stainless steel.
