This a great thread, probably a great representation why SB will live forever.

I'm a little stymied by this. Divers are supposed to be a community.
If a line is a real hazard, and there's no avoiding it - cut it, don't remove someone else's f'ing reel.

Yes "divers" are a community, a community of humans.
Wouldn't cutting this line without removing it create a serious problem?

...if you would remove reel from water usually the first response is to bring reel to Dutch Springs office..
Didn't seem to be the first response for the current owner of this reel.

OP - please tell me you didn't actually run a line directly from the bus to the helicopter.

Yes he did.... he run a line from a bus to a helicopter (for an ocean diver that statement is soooo funny I can't even began to convey how hilarious that is).

seriously ... I'm an ocean diver so the concept of leaving something underwater for the next dive without a buoy is mind bugling. Never mind something supposedly valuable.

I don't see the issue with a line running from the school bus to the helicopter? Is it not the same thing as a line running from the fire truck to the bus?
bus, helicopter, firetruck... again ocean diver here, I only get to see marine creatures, rocks and some debris after holiday weekends, but this is the description of quite an entertaining location.
Appears to have lots of divers coming and going... why would any one leave gear behind?

I'm assuming the line was ran well since it was done by an instructor with I can only assume is a decent amount of experience running a reel.

that's just a funny assumption.

It seems that we are going totally off track- the point is that a expensive item of dive equipment was stolen
Based on the opinions above it seems like an object was left by a diver and removed by another.

The Reel has been turned into Dutch staff Yesterday. I would like to thank all of my dive buddy's that posted about the reel . If it weren't such a small community I don't think it would have been returned.
Thanks for everyone's help in this matter.
