I would hope for never! But that's not realistic in the gulf. I've heard people talk about some of these things attracting fish in a matter of hours to days.

Chaseh:
what's a reasonable expectation of the amount of time such a wreck takes to attract sea life?

Looks pretty awesome no matter what.

In a few years, it should be unreal, although who knows how many divers will be in the water each day. It may be nuts.

Wow I cant wait to go and get a look for myself

The Speigel has a large number of fish hanging around it, and I dove it last back in 2004. Just 2 years after they sent it down.

There are already schools of baitfish on the wreck. Where there's baitfish...

EOD divers with their Poseidon bail out regulators and split fins sure don't look very DIR<G>. I guess they're "Do It Correctly" (DIC) divers.

I found their "stealth backroll" entry kinda cool.

Hey jiveturkey,
If you really want to walk the deck of a Oriskany Class carrier, there are 4 different places in the US you can do it.
The USS Intrepid in NY City on the Hudson River next to the Cunard Docks.
The USS Yorktown In Georgia.I dont remember exactly where but you can google it under Patriots Point.
The USS Lexington In Texas on the Gulf Coast. It is somewhere near Beaumont whe the Mighty O was stored.
And the USS Hornet n Almaeda California ( I think.) I know it is on the west coast somewhere.
All 4 are alomsot identical to the Oriskaney.Only someone who built it or knew where to look could tell when each ship was built to which class. All of those types of carriers were built from the same plans from the USS Essex.
If you want to walk a battleship there are several of those that are mueums also. All are on the Gulf or east coast of the US.

I cant wait to plan a trip to dive the new wreck. From what I read on the Oriskaney website, the lds are saying that the noise and sentiment stirred up by her sinking and settling should draw all types of fish almost immediately.
