Wonder if it will also have an effect on Caribe Blu's business, most of which is divers. Will they want to stay next to this "attraction?"

It will take much more than that to chase me away from C.B., the development can't take up that much space moving out into the ocean, so I think a lot of the shore diving there will still be accessable and clear to continue recovering.

Like Jeff said, just keep looking West! ...or down :D

Yo tam bien. I'm not canceling my May reservation, anyway.

Looks like we may over lap some this year Amigo, I'll let you know when somethings final.

Just to mention; on Disney's Castaway Cay, they operate a stingray encounter. When the hurricanes come the rays are released into the open sea. When the winds calm down they come back on their own. The rays are chipped like a dog or cat so ID is positive. So I think that they like the "prison". 3 squares a day and no sharks must equal stingray Heaven.

Old Diver, I hope the situation works similar to what you just described, but I have serious doubts.

Hello, I just got back from caribe blue oct 14. I was there for 18 days and in that time thet lost 5 stingrays. The currents were pretty wicked switching directions from north to south and south to north. On a daily basis I have seen the net drop any where from a 1 ft to 3 ft under the surface from the current. So hopefully they just keep swimming out. But on the last 3 days I was there, there was 2-3 divers working on the south east corner of the net. I did a shore dive to see what they were doing and it looked like they were using a jack hammer and drilling a small channel into the bedrock by the bottom of the net. But one good thing is ya get to see stingrays every shore dive.

We were at the Caribe Blu the 1st week of Oct. They had started with 25 rays and 5 had already escaped! The currents were pulling the top on the cage down a good foot to two feet. Be careful of your actions when shore diving, anything that would happen to the structure could be blamed on Caribe Blu and Blue Angel. I heard the developers have considerable influence with the goverment. It's a shame to see this, but if the rays keep getting out maybe they'll just put a bar there.

I trust that those who have been posting their inclinations toward sabotage were joking or at least expressing sentiments which they would never act upon.

We don't normally see sting rays like that while diving in Cozumel. I've never seen any besides eagle rays. I'm guessing that they are large southern rays in there.

I wonder if releasing [escaping] non native rays into the local environment will have any impact ?

I think it was obvious that I was joking.... I'd like to spend my time in Cozumel diving, eating good food and sipping cold margaritas. I don't want to end up like stingrays!
