I'm diving Feb. 21-26. Morning dives are confirmed with Deep Blue.
If I can't beg or bribe other divers into going out again, what's my best recourse?
I'm fine with being dropped at a pier, and p/u by another dive op, but how do I handle the timing, and what dive op? I may not know until the end of the am dives if we get the minimum for doing afternoon or twilight.
I obviously want to stay with Deep Blue if I can, so as not to schlup equipment onto another's boat, and into hotel in town.

Also, if anyone would be interested in dinner Monday the 20th, ( and later in the week depending on dive schedule) that would be great. Anywhere in town is fine. Thanks!

Aldora often runs afternoon boats.

The AI resorts down south often run afternoon dives.
You can dive with one of the inhouse dive ops even if you don't stay there.
Your boat can drop you at the resort with gear and you can taxi back later.

You can shore dive.

Welcome to SB.

I've done a lot of dives with Deep Blue and in my experience, things usually pop up during the week/s. As you've mentioned, talk to other divers on the morning boat, and the shop will be actively inquiring for you.

You may have done this already, but I'd also talk to Deborah (the shop owner) or Gary about which other shops would work for afternoon dives if they don't get enough for a boat. They might even be willing to set you up while you're diving if they're not going to have enough for an afternoon boat. I've witnessed, on multiple occasions, shops helping each other with a variety of situations, this being one of them. In that case, I think it was Scuba Shack that had an opening on an afternoon boat for a Deep Blue diver.

In my early years of diving Cozumel, I was in your shoes, but didn't know to ask what you're asking. On the other hand, it was pretty rare to get shut-out on afternoon dives.

I think Aldora does a one tank afternoon dive regularly, but I'm not sure where they depart. If it's downtown, that could work. It sounds like Tres Pelicanos goes out in the afternoon regularly too. They'd get you from the caletta back to town at the end of the day.

Switching back and forth with Ops would be so much trouble. I'd just hope for my Op to come up with PM dives. I'm lazy enough that afternoon dives on top of mornings no longer interest me, but twilight & night dives do. With the shorter days, there is not much siesta time between lunch and going on a twilight run. Anyway, I used to be driven on more dives, but 2 a day most days is enough for me now, with so much else to enjoy in town and around.
Also, if anyone would be interested in dinner Monday the 20th, ( and later in the week depending on dive schedule) that would be great. Anywhere in town is fine. Thanks!
You can easily sponsor a dinner meeting by picking a place, date, and time, then opening a new thread on this forum, requesting RSVPs. There should be plenty of other SB folks in town who will join you. Pick the night and tell your Op to organize night trips around that.

Very excited!
Dives are falling into place, and looking good for the week.
Thanks everyone for your help, and Christi, who had some afternoons available,
And was willing to transport my gear back to D.B. For my am dives.
Life is fabulous!

Have you visited Wind Guru lately? May be a problem on the west side on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday morning is only 36 HRs out.
