I have a pair of 72's that are still in good shape and hydro. I just purchased a DiveRite SS backplate/harness and a OMS 45lb Wing. I was told that this wing could handle my LP steel 95's and 80 AL's Singles. I also bought a Dive Rite classic wing for the same backplate and a double tank setup.

Could someone advise me on where I could get the proper bands and manifold for for steel 72's. I plan on using this rig a recreational setup to get used to the system. I might increase the tank size in the future if I take a technical diving class or nitrox class. Also, I have yet to find a clear pictures or information and how the two regs run, and what the proper hose lengths are for each 2nd stage and the LP inflator.

PS. I would like to keep one of my regulators with the SPG/computure configured for single tank diving.

Thanks!!

You should talk to your LDS that you might take a Tech class from. They should be more than willing to help you since they know after you get setup you will probably take a class, even though twins are a great "recreational" setup also. You're going to have to do some gear configuration when you switch from singles to twins and back to singles ... no way around this but it is easy and minor. I'll let others chime in and tell you where to get the best deal on manifolds and bands, but make sure you get a manifold with an isolator. If you switch tank sizes, you will need to buy new bands in the future. As to your setup question, here is what you do. Your primary regulator should have a 7' hose and your LP inflator hose ... and that's it. This connects to your right valve and the 7' hose will go down your right side under your right arm and loop around the left side of your neck and behind your neck so you can breath from your right side. The second regulator should have a slightly longer than normal hose and your SPG and that's it. The longer hose is needed so that it has a comfortable length to go your right side as you are used to. But it will have a bungee cord or surgical tubing connected to made into a necklace. Your LDS can help. There are also other little routing tips that your LDS can help you with. My only advice is to be careful if they start trying to sell you gadgets to make things easier. You don't need any gadgets and they either get in the way or become a hazard if you start relying on them as a crutch. You should also check out the DIR forum and the Hogarthian forum here at ScubaBoard.

1. Some images that may provide you with the hose routing concept (click on any photo for a expanded image):

2. Highlands Millworks offers bands. There may be others also, but Highlands are pretty tasty. Sea Elite, Thermo, Halcyon, OMS, and Dive Rite offer manifolds.

3. Hose lengths are 84" for your primary (rt post), 22" for your secondary (left post), wing-specific for your LP inflator hose (many corregated hoses are too long - ask your dealer, many manufacturers offer shorter lengths if you request them).

4. Put your computer on your wrist regardless of what sort of diving you do. Clip your SPG to your left waist D-ring, whether diving with single or double tanks.

5. You may find it challenging to keep a regulator set up for single use (assuming you only own two), unless you don't mind switching hoses around when you change from singles to doubles. Reason is that you'll run primary and LP inflator off your left post, secondary and SPG off your right post, and drysuit - if you use a drysuit - off your right post as well. For single use, all four hoses attach to one first stage. Therefore, to use one of the two above regs for single tank diving you're going to be switching hoses. Either buy a third reg to leave set up for single tank use, or take the 15 minutes it requires to switch hoses around when you go from single to double tank diving.

Finally be wary of whatever anyone tells you on internet forums, myself included! Best of luck.

You're welcome!!

Great pics
5. . . . you'll run primary and LP inflator off your left post, secondary and SPG off your right post . . .
to clarify, did you switch your orientation to looking at the rig from the front since you previously said the opposite and the pics show the opposite. I just say this so other novices don't get confused from your good advice.

We stock manifolds and tank bands for all sizes of 72s. It's important that you know the diameter of the cylinders you have and that they be "matched." The two tanks must be the same diameter and the same length without the boots. If you ping me the cylinder size we can get you set up with the right bands. They can be anywhere from 6.5" to 7" diameter depending on the manufacture and working pressure.

Since you're in the L.A. area you could talk to Bill at Hollywood Divers on Cahuenga in Hollywood. He's one of the owners and a tech instructor.

They carry a variety of manufacturers. I've always gotten a good deal from them and have seen them go out of their way to help people. Bill has actully taken apart his own gear and lent out parts of it when someone needed something right away. Someone came in with a computer that needed servicing when I was there. It turned out that more than just a battery was needed. He had one just like it and he lent it to them so that they could go diving the next morning.

Just keep in mind that if you decide to go the DIR route for gear configuration that they are not DIR divers. Although I'm not a DIR diver at this point, I decided to set my rig up to be DIR compliant and they were very supportive and helpful throughout the process. If you go that route, then you need to let them know this up front, so that they can guide you properly with the correct gear choices.

The other posters in this thread have given you sound advice, I just wanted to answer your question about "where" you could go in this area.

Hope this helps.

No, I simply screwed up. :D Tired, I guess.

Primary hose and LP inflator run off your right post.

Secondary hose, SPG, and drysuit inflator run off your left post (unless you use an argon bottle, in which case the drysuit inflator runs off the argon bottle regulator!) In either case, the drysuit inflator hose routes under your left arm and up to your chest valve.

To set up a single tank regulator all five hoses will run from the single first stage. Primary and secondary route to the right. LP inflator hose, SPG hose, and drysuit inflator hose would route to the left.

My apologies to any who were confused by my previous post!
