Are there numbers available for the Breakwater Beach? Are they close to dangerous? Lots of sea lions...

Only Del Monte is an issue, but that gives you many of the areas beaches.

When the levels are healthy is a decent place to dive?

Nope, not at all, especially with several dozen other sites in Monterey and Carmel.

There's a sailboat and an amtrack out there though. LOTS of sand. LOTS.

I would slightly disagree with you guys...

When you do stumble upon the Eel grass patches generally there is some cool stuff living in there, plus all the tires tend to be the home to lots of juvenile nudis. Also if you find it the Amtrack is a pretty cool thing to see. I cant speak for the sailboat as I have never seen or tried to see it.

I've also read that there are sand dollar beds, halibut and sand dabs, and generally a good place for beginners to gain experience, and a good place to dive if your family wants to hang out on a beach while you dive.

The proper name for the beach by the breakwater is "San Carlos Beach" and it's listed
over on the left side of the page that bbianchi posted. I don't let these worry me
much, esp. if it's just one beach. The tides and currents move the water around enough
that who knows where the poop is now. And I also wonder about the noise level in the data --
what if a sea gull or rockfish pooped nearby.
