I have been watching this board for a few months now, and have refrained from commenting.
Mainly due to the ridiculous follow ups and pathetic responses.
I find it hard to believe there are so many "new" divers out there that have so much "valuable" information to offer.
Its such a shame that the good advice is buried in so much crap.
Im also amazed at the number of people who have picked up a book, watched a video or read a thread on Technical diving, and are all of a sudden an authority on DIR philosophy.
I do however find it rather amazing that certain senior members can so much as fart in a thread, and then have a little band of new divers running around behind him asking if its ok for them to smell it. It kind of reminds me of the Cartoon with the cats.
" Can I dive with you *****, can I, can I? huh, huh. I love to dive yep yep....Im a good diver now........"
Then there are the so called "successful business men" who were the worlds best CEO, and now believe that they can turn the diving world upside down with there ever so valuable knowledge. You should just thank the lord that you got out before the bubble burst, sit in the corner and hope you are as lucky next time, they are almost as bad as the so hard done by LDS owners.
I continue to see the strings of divers on vessels who come on board with tons and tons of expensive gear, all the right words, a tee shirt and a cap with the "right" logo's on it, yet jump in the water and swim like a clam. I often wondered where these divers got so mislead into investing more money on gear than skills.
I guess the internet has a lot to answer for. Im not advocating that its ok to dive with crap, or start on the wrong foot, but moderation is the key.
Its also very amusing to hear divers telling others about there new Rigs, others who were diving harness rigs when these guys were wearing Diapers.
I believe I read the term "cyber divers" once, its pretty appropriate.
I can be thankful that I dont have too many years of diving left in me, so I only have to put up with the nonsense for a little while. Im too old to argue, so I guess I will just sit in my corner and continue to be a grumble bum, old sea dog.
I hope I have not offended too many people, there are many GOOD people on this board with very good information, Im only sorry you have to put up with such nonsense.
