I am a paramedic in the St.Pete/Clearwater area of west Florida, and want to start a dive club for myself and other public safety professionals and their families. I wish to include fellow medics, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, Docs and nurses from our service area....Pinellas County. I have a few ideas of what the club will need to provide for it's members, such as special scheduling of meetings, trips and classes so that all can be involved and not miss out because of work. I learned a long time ago that if coworkers socialize together outside of work, then they become teammates, resulting in unit cohesion and a sincere desire to protect each other. The problem is...I don't know how to set it up. Should it be a legal entity, profit or non-profit, how many officers should we have, should we affiliate ourselves with a single dive shop in the area? Although I really want to get it going and it's my idea, I don't want to run the thing. I wouldn't know how. But since I am the one organizing it, should I serve as first chairman...or president or whatever? I really want this done right from the beginning, so can anyone help?

You could always contact local clubs to see how they started their group. Here are a few links:
