Hey,

Thinking of upgrading the plastic buckles on my xdeep cam bands to stainless. Anyone got any tips for ensuring the buckles don't damage my painted cylinders?

Why?? What advantages do steel buckles offer? I have a steel waist buckle and was think of changing it to the polymer/composite/plastic/whatever version … are they prone to breaking?

I wasn't really bothered myself but I recently observed a diver lose a cylinder due to his plastic cam band breaking. luckily it was at the end of the dive.

In cold temps, plastic may be more prone to breaking.

Like rivets in the Titanic?

I used stainless steel bands and stainless steel cambands, and in the end switched to a quality plastic camband (also Xdeep) and to be honest never going back. They're lighter, more comforable to use and if set up properly work great. Mind you I'm using cambands for sidemount.
