You won't find the recommendation for plastic anywhere on the GUE website but at one time George did state that the preference for stages was for plastic gauges. So for the past many years I always used plastic ones because I found they do ride slightly better than the big brass ones, however you have to replace them every couple of years or so. I've recently started to switch to the small brass ones (not button gauges) and I've found them to ride just as good as plastic.

I've tried the standard size B&G and the plastic, and vastly prefer the plastic. Haven't tried the smaller B&G though.

Piranha has a sale on the plastic ones right now...cheapest I've ever seen.

For those of you who haven't tried the black faced mini spgs by HOG, I would recommend them. VERY easy to see in the dark.

I would say no on button gauges simply because they're almost impossible to read. I have one on my Argon reg, and its only purpose is to tell me if the bottle is full, half full, or empty. But after a few months of use, I can't read it well enough to do that (even WITH my glasses on).

Brass & glass for all of my spg's. And they're all matched. That way if I ever have to swap one out, it's simple. Grab a spare, swap ity out, all still matched. Same with my stage/deco regs.
