You're already doing this with one hp hose so why now would two be out of the question? Also I've seen it done with spg bottom port bungees up and transmitter top port bungeed down in a similar way to the spg but down. It seems to work well

And you can't just watch the AI pressure drop? You MUST watch an SPG? How 20th century.

With transmitter on bottom and button gauge on top and left hand on valve handwheel, you should be able to purge the 2nd stage and see the button gauge go to 0.
Sorry to be contentious...
It seems very wrong to use a transmitter on a stage/deco bottle UNLESS you have a normal SPG attached.
Reasoning: stage/deco bottles may need to be handed off to other divers. The gauges are clearly visible in front of you (as in a short 15cm/6' HP hose doubled back). Secondly your whole dive plan is based around having enough gas for deco, with reserves for team member/buddy should that "one" failure occur.
Having multiple gas transmitter pressure readings on your dive computer will be a lot more complex on the user interface; complex = confusing underwater. With the latest Shearwater update you can have 2 character labels on the transmitters, so maybe it could be a little less confusing.
I do understand that you may want to use a transmitter for SAC/RMV/gas usage calculations, i.e. gas logging.
Damned if I'd want AI on my rebreather bailout cylinderS. Having AI on the rebreather oxygen and diluent is a good thing, not least because it cleans up the front of the rebreather.

A button gauge would take care of the first objection, that of not having a readout always available.
Speculation here, but based on my previous use of Shearwaters, I expect that screen clutter isn't going to be a big issue. The user should be able to display just the desired tanks (just T1 for BM; both T1 and T2 for SM) on the main screen and then cycle through to find a tank-pressure screen with everything listed.
Can anyone using the new firmware and deco tank transmitters confirm/deny this idea?
