We have SeaQuest Balance BC's with AirSource secondary air. We have both the Sub Duck underwater horn and the Dive Alert surface horn (wow-it's loud!!!). Does anyone know if we can stack both the SubDuck and the Dive Alert on the low pressure line at the same time? That way we can be obnoxious both on and below the surface!! (Sorry ... but I just love that quacking sound :) )

I wouldn't just because I think its too much clutter. I would put them in my pocket if I had to have them. But I don't see why it wouldn't work. They both are designed to let the air from your LP hose to pass freely. But you will need to get a shorter LP hose. Each of those noise makers are what, 3 1/2" at least.

All you are doing is adding faliure points to your Life support system. And really annoying other divers

Try either a "tank banger "or the heel of your knife on your tank to attract attention underwater.

On the surface a good whistle, zip tied onto your LP hose or in your pocket and a saftey sausage is all you need.

I had a Air horn once and learnt my lesson when it stuck on underwater, never again will I wear this nasty bit of kit.

If you cant stay with your buddy underwater then you are diving solo, and a horn is not going to help you anyway, going back to your Open Water course "How much faster does sound travel in water than air ?

If somone is using a horn underwater chances are you have no idea what direction to swim to find them anyway !

Good buddy skills should negate the need for an airpowered underwater signalling device. Use your lights instead.

Whistles are much cheaper, and work when you're stuck on the surface out of air. I keep one bungeed to my safety sausage (you have a safety sausage, right?).

should be banned far too anoying

Some operators recommend / request you have a surface horn sometimes a whistle will not cut it. I went on mike Ball Liveaboard in PNG and due to the exposed diving they recomend both SMB and dive alert horns. My dive alert got me out of trouble once and thats enough for me.

The sea quest air source has a larger than usual quick connect but you can get a dive alert to fit, not noticed any difficulty breathing with it.

But as mentioned get a shorter hose, i put up with the standard length but had it wrap once around my inflator hose (not ideal)

Good pointers, everyone - many thanks. Albion hit the issue. We're preparing to go on a liveaboard that requires DiveAlerts which is what really drove the question.
