Why is it that all the STA's that I see have the cam band slots spaced so far apart? I dive with steel tanks and since the steel's are shorter there is no room to "move" my tank up or down by a few inches. The top cam is right below where the cylinder starts to curve on the top and the bottom is about touching my tank boot. I looked at the slots in the backplate and they are spaced much closer together. I started using thoes slots and removed the STA but I really liked the added weight of the STA.

I'm going to get a custom STA made to my specs but I wanted to know is there a reason the slots are spaced so far apart?

Also other than custom, are they available online with closer spacing?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Because the world dives with Al 80's !!!

Don't really know, J, but let me know what ya need.

I've noticed the same thing with lightweight, low profile STA's. One reason may be that the holes for the bolts are 11" apart and maybe the manufacturers want the strap to cover the bolt for some reason - maybe so it wouldn't scratch the tank?

Have you seen the Oxycheq heavy (6#) STA? I has 3 set of slots:

NESS also sells a heavy STA's with 3 sets of slots for half the price:

And they have a super heacy version too, but no pic.

J,
If worse comes to worse, you can cut the center section from the one piece STA and make it a 2 piece. That'll solve your problem.

I think I will just keep diving without the STA. The way you make the STA-less slots in the backplate I have absolutely NO wobble at all and the tank feels as secure as it does with the STA. Great Plate Kraken!

I might look into getting a 3 sloted STA later. Thanks,
Jeremy

I have the 6 pound STA from NESS and I like it a lot. I can turn the STA on end depending on the tank, needed when I use my Steel 80's. I think I recall reading or hearing that NESS no longer makes the 6 pound STA but I could be wrong or they may have started making it again.
