St Vincent Tips

We are heading to St Vincent in July or August.

I assume we will use Dive St Vincent since we are not all inclusive type folks.

Can anyone please help me with:

Accomodation recommendations? (A room with a separate bedroom is ideal, as is a refrigerator.) Near the water and close to town/restuarants would be nice.

How close in walking distance is each recommended hotel to other restauarants? We would like to sample the island fare.

Must do places to eat?

Dress code? We really do not want to travel with anything but shorts and t shirts, so if restaurants want collared shirts or pants/dresses, I need to know that.

Anything else useful is appreciated.

I would recommend Beachcombers Hotel or Rosewood Apts, both provide excellent value for money and are within walking dostance of a number of other hotels, restaurants and bars in the Villa area close to Dive St. Vincent.

FYI - you do not have to stay at the all inclusive resort to dive with Indigo - however the closest you would be able to stay is in Kingstown approx 15 mins drive from the shop.

Dress Code is casual! I rock board shorts every where and throw on a polo shirt if I feel the need to be fancy. Hell I've even quit wearing shoes. Beach Combers, Mariners and Paradise are all walking distance from the shop and a short bus ride from Caliqua or Arnos Vale if you need to stock up on supplies. I recommend Mariners for value and proximity to the shop, a 2 min walk. There is also a great package offered through Dive St. Vincent and Mariners. It is a little further away but White Sands Villas has a really nice 2 bedroom cottage they rent right on the water about a 5 min walk and then 5 min bus ride from the shop. It has a full kitchen and access to a secluded beach. See you guys soon!

Just wanted to bump up this post. We are looking into a dive vacation in Nov. One of the couples we will be traveling with visited St. Vincent several years ago and loved the island and the diving. Anybody want to offer their recent experiences with diving in STV? How does the lionfish issue compare with other islands in the Caribbean? Thanks in advance
