Hi All, I have just enrolled in a DiveCon course and have a question about the training manual. First I would like to say that I am taking this class in Taiwan with local trainers. I have done several dives with the instructors and have witnessed them teaching students and was surprised at the quality of training they received, therefore I made the decision to complete the DiveCon with them.

Here in this part of the world saving cost/money is always the number 1 priority. The DiveCon book that I received was printed in 2/99 and the revision is 2nd Edition 4/97. Is that the most current edition?

I know many here will say if I have doubt about anything then I should not complete the course with them. That is not going to happen....they are close friends and my dive partners and most of all I trust them and have witnessed them training students. Additionally I understand the culture and know that anything and everything will be done to save cost.

Thanks....

I am looking at mine right now and it shows a 6th printing with the date 8/02. I believe that there maybe a newer one than that.

I am in the process of taking the Dive Con course (dives are that are all that is left). Only 2 questions have there been a difference between mine and the newer additions. One in the Standards and the minimal time before flying my books says 12 hrs and the new one says 18hrs with the test question answer being 12 hrs.

Any other questions drop me a note.

Good Luck it is a great class.

I'm taking my DiveCon right now...almost finished.

The training manual I have is second edition, 7th printing, published in December of 2004.

I have raised these questions to my instructor and he inturn raised them to the "course director" here locally. Stated almost no difference between the old and new to me, I made the issue that I deserved to have the newest manual. Im getting a new manual but im sure that I pissed him off cause it will cost him money and now he still has a SSI DCS manual in English lying around the dive shop. Didnt know what else do....I was as nice and well mannored about the subject as I could possibly be.

You paid for the books, you paid for the course that he bought a book and has had to hold onto it for so many years is not your problem or your fault. He could however just get all the updates and install them. There are some significant differences but can all be modified with the updates at a significantly lower cost then new manuals. If your paying full price for the books they are ordering he will be out nothing in reality, however he will make nothing on the books either. By getting the updates he will significantly cut into his margin on the books but will still make something on them.

Bottom line, either way you have nothing to feel bad about.
If you help them with class's after your done he'll more then get his moneys worth out of you.

Personally, I have to respect your motivation to make sure you have the most recent information. That is exactly what we should all be looking for in dive professionals.

You have nothing to feel guilty about. You have everything to feel good about.
