So I'm building a set of "pool" doubles and as I've only ever had steel doubles, I'm curious as to the effect of stainless bands on aluminum tanks. The tanks I'll be using are painted but will spend most of there time in the pool. Should I use a rubber inner tube between the two "dissimilar" metals? Or am I just over thinking this (engineer background).

you're overthinking it. You can use rubber between the band and tank if you like.

Just read the similar thread, glad to see that some of us can analyze almost anything too deeply.

Hi,

What can happen is that the rubber gets nasty over time and begins to break down. In this particular case you are going to get corrosion one way or another because of the oxidation of the aluminum under the bands, not so much from the different metals, but from the moisture under the bands. When we install a valve on an aluminum tank all that is required is a lite coat of lubricant on the valve.
