What r the best places for diving in sri lanka ? I've been told that Hikkaduwa till Galle r very good and it seems that best sould be on the West side, could u confirm me that ? And is january good too ?
Can u go now to the north for diving ?

The west coast has good diving around Negombo and Colombo. Negombo is close to the airport and has good tourist infrastructure. Fish life in Negombo is very good. Nearshore visibility is variable but there is an offshore reef with excellent viz and marine life.

The south from Hikkaduwa to Galle still has a few good dives but many have been ravaged by dynamite fishing and have poor marine life. Sites I would recommend in the south are Barracuda Point in Beruwela, Kiralagala in Hikkaduwa, and the Rangoon and a few other wrecks in Galle.

There is very good diving around Kalpitiya (northwest) but no dive operators and poor tourist infrastructure.

January is a good month to dive the west and south coast. Best conditions tend to be in February and March.

The east coast can be dived from April to September. Good diving round Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Mostly shallow coral reefs and some excellent wrecks.

There are still travel restrictions in the north until they resettle people and complete de-mining.

Complete PADI Instructor development course is expected to be held in Sri lanka for the first time in April/May 2010 followed by an IE (Instructor examination) We need minimum 4 to 5 pax to start.
An excellent opportunity good rates can be offered. visit srilanka-divingtours.com news
