get a small water proof epir and then you vac pac it and take it w/you when you drift dive in less than ideal surface conditions as well as for those times the USCS needs to find your sinking boat.. I have had mine in my BC pocket to 150 fsw spearin on a hump in Marquesas. double vac packed it hasnt leaked in the sport diving depth range.this is a good way to get 2 different uses out of a pc of electronic gear. Its nice for the Coast Guard to be able to locate you when adrift in the sea.

I've always found a GPS and a marine band radio (of whatever frequency is appropriate for the location) to be my most valued pieces of safety equipment. That's not to say I don't carry PFDs and an EPIRB, just that I haven't used them nearly as much.

Hopefully I avoid the sinking boat =)

However, I do like the idea of vac pac a plb or epirb. I was looking at some of the canisters for taking a plb diving with me, but it looks bulky and not sure if there is a better method.

I have a gps and will be getting a marine radio, that is an essential piece of gear. However, now I am thinking that the plb/epirb is a great piece of gear if needed. Plus, I like the idea of taking it with me when I dive in case separated from the boat.

The three that I am looking at are:
ACR Aqualink View PLB-350C (#2884)
Mcmurdo Fastfind Max-G
Mcmurdo Fastfind 210

All have gps. The 210 is smaller and would be easy to fit in the bc (with container/vac pac?) to keep the water out. Anyone have any experience with these or a different recommendation?
