I spent a little time today cross-referencing a few threads. All had to do with the springs and such. Anyway, I have noticed that many just keep missing one another. If one isn't on here a lot they miss the thread. Sometimes people cross-post and that gets missed as well. Also, I see several pass thru here and then kind of go off on their own, as it seems there is no real place on here to congregate, check-in, or get to know one another, if you will.

So I thought of starting this thread. I was hoping it could start out like the Tampa one did and grow from there.

I personally will not be posting on this thread much. I will however, direct people to it, since I am on here, some would say, a lil too much *Miss blushing* :D

My knowledge on the springs when it comes to diving is limited, since almost all of my time was spent canoeing the rivers with my boys. So I am hoping that some of the more avid/knowledgeable divers that go up to the springs will kind of take-over. :)

I think it's a good idea. Sort of like a tech subsection to the Tampa area thread

Now how did you know I was a spring/cavern kind of guy???? You did some serious digging on here to find my old posts I guess? Yeah, I have....uhhh...a little? knowledge of the local springs around here. If anyone needs info, just shoot me a msg and I'll be glad to help out the best I can. Can even possibly meet someone at an area spring sometime if they have never been to kinda "guide" them through it thier first time if needed. Since I am back in the car biz full time now I need a little notice though. Can't just head out anyday of the week like I used to.

Sounds like a good idea to me. BTW...are we ever going back to different forums for different areas. Now it's Florida and Tampa...like there are no other places to Florida.:11doh:

I really can't say much. If I do, I am considered by some as the anti-christ. :shakehead The other day I asked that some dive trips that had been stickied in the main forum be moved to the appropriate forum i.e, "Trips and Marketplace". You would not believe the wrath/responses/sarcasm that I received from some of the FL mods. :11doh: All of that said, El Orans is on a well deserved vacation at the moment. I wouldn't expect anything to happen whilst he is away.

As for geo areas, I had hoped this would be the case. To me this would have made all major areas kind of like the GreaterTampa thread was i.e., bringing like minded people together, in and around their local areas, for like minded diving. A start on the path of getting to know one another, if you will. Though the GreaterTampa thread was beneficial in so many ways, it fell far short for spring people in this area.

Anyway, to answer your question; separate areas will not be, even if they are under one banner. It is going to be north and south, with Tampa in the South and Orlando in the north. Reason being (barring the vote), as I was told, the split essentially destroyed the camaraderie of FL  and that people are in the process of healing right now  I wholeheartedly disagree with that and find it terribly close-minded but hey... I am not a mod with input on FL so...

Any "separation" will have to come in the form of a club, per the new set-up. Tampa will eventually fall under clubs.

Anyway, enough of that, I don't want to ruin this thread so let me please get off of the soapbox. On to good stuff.:) As I said today, I took a couple of minutes and cross-referenced some threads discussing springs and such. I am hoping, with the start of this thread, people will start chatting and getting to know one another. Too often people who are wanting to do the springs get missed for one reason or another. So if there is one main thread, hopefully that can get something going.

Heheheheh, I'm tired of watching people "just miss each other".:blinking: Thought maybe if there was a central locale.... things might start to happen. Even if it is one or two people getting together - they will know the locale to find a buddy :)

howdy i basically like to hunt fossils in the rivers and know of some springs on the hillsborough none of which you can penatrate. The seven sisters on the chassahowitzka is penatrateable but i haven't dove that in probly 6 or 8 years ago.

I'm up in zephyrhills north east of tampa.

Are you near Sky-Dive City?

Just finished up my cavern dives today up at Ginnie. Had a great time with that. Was good to get into some serious flow and run some lines. Ballroom was fairly empty early on for our training in there.....so when it started to get filled with OW divers we were ready to move anyway......then we moved down the road......we had to go fill a couple tanks as we ended up bringing a couple empties with us.....the reason i mention this is be cautious of the air fills.....we specified that we all had LP108s....and he said "oh i can pump these up for you".....we told him no more then 3000.....we picked our tanks up and got down to the dive site and my SPG showed 3900....then a minute later my octo freeflowed like crazy and wouldn't stop so i had to turn the valve off....so that took it down to 3200 pretty quick....not sure if the pressure had anything to do with it, but anyway while we were suiting up one of the tanks in the truck blew the burst disk.....so anyway not sure why i mentioned that, but just make sure you specify that you are not diving HP tanks and make sure they understand what that means.....anyway back to the dive.....I get the eye and the ear mixed up, but the one with the fallen tree has some really crazy flow in the first section you drop down into. So i enjoyed that. Just wish i could go farther.....on the way out trying to reel my line up was fun.......i had to wedge myself into both walls to keep from getting thrown out while reeling up the line....but still only had one minor tangle today and had a great time....
