want to eliminate the lungs and a more precise and failsafe re-breather similar to the nasa plss (life support system) .

The plss uses the space suit as a flexible container for the breathed gasses (don't eat beans) instead of counterlungs
It probably cost millions$$$ to develop and you want to design and build a rebreather on your kitchen table yet you are not sure how O2 cells are constructed.
