jstamets:

Thank you for your good informed posts. Many times the split/paddle discussion rapidly becomes simply a Republican/Democrat debate.

Using the correct kick style is key for either paddle or split.

When faced with current many divers "open up" their kick using a wide flutter or even wider scissor kick. With most split fins this does not work. A smaller flutter kick, in the slipstream of the divers body will provide plenty of power with less effort.

We developed the stiffer XT model for those divers who prefer or are used to a wider slower kick.

As you said you will now be able to get more out of your split fins: "should the need arise" and you also have a set of paddles on the way. You are good to go.

Thank you for your intelligent post. I'm sure some of the folks lurking about will benefit from the discussion.

Your split fins are very good for snorkelling, they are not meant to be used for diving. For diving use paddle fins

Actually split fins are horrible at snorkeling. Paddle fins work best for snorkeling, and for looking DIR.

that was probably meant to sound like sparkling irony

whatever we post here the topic starter has already made first step toward realizing that he paid for an expensive piece of crap, as soon as he starts diving paddles and learn proper kicking teсhnics he won't go back to using splits for diving, one UW byciclist less

Or maybe he had learned that hydrodynamics is a wonderful thing and ditched the steamboat sidemounted propeller.:idk:

Time will tell, eh? Perhaps there is room for both. Or perhaps different strokes for different folks? Perhaps one really is horrible. I suspect that the paddles will be more in tune with my current kick style, but again, the question was not which is better - but how to use the tool at hand. Whether it is the correct tool is irrelevent and already a very dead horse of a subject.
